In 1997, a group of R/C Enthusiasts’ got together to form the Riverfront R/C Speedway Club. They solicited the City of Fort Dodge for permission to build and maintain an R/C race track. The City gave them their permission to build the track next to Sunkissed Meadow’s Golf Course. But due to the ground being in a designated flood plain, the club needed to also ask the State of Iowa for their permission.

Once the group received permission from both the city and state, the hard work began. The club set the wheels in motion not only to design the track, but to raise the needed funds to build. The design is a quarter-scale replica of a NASCAR oval track. The track became a reality in 1998, due to individual’s hard work and commitmentSignificant Changes 2008 to achieving the goal of building the track.

The track is sanctioned by QSAC (Quarter Scale Auto Club). QSAC is the national governing organization for quarter scale tracks throughout the nation. QSAC sanctions six major races held each year. These six races determine the National Champion. In 2004 Riverfront R/C Speedway was chosen to host the National Final Showdown Race. This race drew cars and drivers from as far away as Australia.

Riverfront R/C Speedway Club is a self-supporting, non-profit organization. Races are held from April thru June on Saturday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. July thru October the

races are moved to Sunday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. Both the Fort Dodge and Algona quarter-scale tracks run races on the same weekends, but opposite days. This enables racers to come and race both tracks on the same weekend. The club draws racers from IA, MN, NE, KS, MO, and IL on a regular basis.

The club is a family-oriented club. It runs electric and quarter-scale classes. The races are open to the public to enjoy the fun and excitement at no cost. The club is always open to welcoming new members. You don’t have to be a club member to race on race day. Just like the big cars, the racers develop a brotherhood of helping each other, Rookie or Veteran. Quarter-scale is as close as you can get to racing without climbing into a big car. Come join the fun or come to just watch.
